Another user on here reported issues when the clocks went forward but it resolved itself. Thanks for your reply and suggestions. The problem is indeed confined to my device only. Checked with a friend nearby who also has one. He had no issues. Stuck in 'Update' first thing this morning after overnight EPG broadcast but I had done some more reading yesterday evening on past solutions and tried some more things before EPG broadcast today.
For the benefit of anyone else who may read this in the future with a similar problem, here's what I did based on various other posts from other people from some time ago Full reset hold Stop button on front panel, then press Power button on front panel.
This puts the device back into factory startup 2. Removed aerial lead from back of device. Powered on device and did the 'Easy Setup' but with no aerial so no channels detected 4. Full reset again and then removed the power plug from the wall totally disconnected power 5.
Left it for 30 mins 6. Powered on again still with no aerial in and followed 3 to 5 above for a second time 7. Reconnected aerial and started it up for a third time and this time went through the normal Easy Setup. During 7. I think it was some combination of tuning with no aerial connected plus the full power-off for 30 minutes which seems to have fixed it and cleared down whatever was causing the problem. Thanks for your help and advice. I'm happy it is back working again, for now!
Just have to re-program all of those timer settings into it now!! These are imo one of the best bits of kit Sony or any other manufacturer come to that have ever produced. Nothing happened with Stop and Power buttons, so I tried unplugging it for awhile. After I plugged it back in, it still said Update, but now when I try to turn it on or press Stop and Power it says 'Locked' for a second before going back to Update.
I now have this problem too. Stuck on Update, won't turn on or anything. I tried the Stop and Power button thing; no joy. Tried unplugging it for a while and plugging back in.
Now trying to turn it on or pressing Stop and Power produces the word Locked, but nothing else. Does anything happen if you hold the front panel power down for several seconds perhaps as many as 10 or 15 seconds. To do this hold the power button down until the unit breaks out of update and begins to switch off it will look as if it is turning off and you will hear the hard drive power down. Then give the power button another quick press you might need to try this process a couple of times if you are not quick enough with the second button press as it shuts down.
Please let me know if this remedies the problem. Good luck. Last edited: Oct 31, Mr R Laverick said:. Click to expand Gavtech Administrator. Welcome to the forum Sherry.
You say the unit has been like this for about a month This may mean that the unit has become clogged up with corrupted EPG data. Whether that is true or not you should start from a clean baseline and clean the machine out.
First give the unit a lengthy power reset. Disconnect the unit from the mains for several hours. If that makes no difference try a full reset and retune. The unit may be struggling to get EPG data if reception at the machine is poor for any reason.
Check the aerial connections are sound and clean. If you have the unit connected by HDMI , remove it until you get this issue sorted out. JH4 Well-known Member. Just read your posts above - a couple of things which may help: The "Update" message is simply the machine getting current EPG info.
That is quite normal, and happens daily. It can take about 10 minutes, each time it does it. If you get the message that "the function is not available", make sure you are on a Freeview channel, and not a line input eg, "L1" If you have now recorded a programme and successfully edited it, then the hard drive would seem to be OK, which was my first thought.
If you can post again, we may be able to help more. Good luck! Oops, just read Gavtech's post - I agree with that , as well, btw. JH4 said:. Gavtech said:. Hi, Thank you for your reply.
Gavtech just meant try using a scart cable rather than the HDMI output, as these sometimes cause interference. As you've tried every one of the above suggestions, I'm at a loss how to advise you further.
I really hope this phenomena does not occur with my machine. I am not at my normal computer at the moment but I am almost sure I have a copy of the [English ] service manual on there which I will check later. More info I just remembered if it helps:- I think the firmware was version 1.
Also after I installed it and it made no difference, I re-installed it just in case it might not of updated correctly. The remote comes with no instructions, the use of what buttons to use is contained within the relevant service manuals and service bulletins that get issued.
From looking at similar errors posted on Sony's service site the most likely problem would be the HDD needs to be replaced. Changing the hard disc is relatively easy task, just follow the steps listed and you should be fine. If you do have any questions please list them after reading and prior to attempting it. Exactly the same, and just started tonight, was working fine yesterday - I've also tried updating firware to 1. Not sure where to go with it next. Did the person who was trying to update ever get out of the Download 5 loop? I don't think it can be the signal as the TV works fine. I did get a couple of brief glimpses of an EPG which was in a different format to the usual one but it disappeared in a matter of seconds. We lost the EPG in the evening. We were still able to view recordings, access the system settings etc, but nothing on the EPG.
I thought I'd look at updating the fireware etc this morning, however, when I went to the front room the machine was just stuck with "update" on the front and now wouldn't even switch on at all. I've totally unplugged the device for now. It is a good job I found this thread, I just assumed some hardware had failed in the box, but clearly if we are all experiencing the same issue on the same evening something has gone wrong, I'm at a loss for a solution, I guess we all have to contact Sony?
We all couldn't have possibly suffered the same hardware failure on the same evening! Having the same issue with my Rdr-HXD Strange lettering for a while and now nothing operates. Hope SONY know. Support phone number only operates Mon to Fri pm.
Hope something gets done soon! Community Share your experience!
